It's all fear and skittles for the Black Caps. The bruised and confused home side fell tamely yesterday as Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga took a career-best 5-68 to give the tourists an iron grip on the second test.
Malinga's slingy right-arm action from the Bob Vance Stand end saw New Zealand ripped out for 130 in its first innings. Sri Lanka then piled on the agony by reaching 225-5, a lead of 363 with three days remaining.
With Brendon McCullum (bruised finger and instep) and Jacob Oram (hamstring) battling for fitness, the Black Caps appear to have a windsurfer's chance in a Wellington gale of salvaging a draw, let alone victory.
